Origin and history

The building located in Arras, in the Pas-de-Calais department, is a historical monument whose protection specifically concerns the facade. Ranked by ministerial decree on 12 January 1920, it is part of the urban landscape of the Grande-Place, the historic heart of the city. Its official address, 8 Grande-Place, and its approximate location at 12 Bis Rue du Cardinal reflect a variable geographical accuracy, assessed as "passible" (note 5/10) in heritage databases.

Arras, a city marked by a rich medieval and modern history, has seen its centre rebuilt several times, especially after the destruction of the two world wars. The buildings of the Great Place, often dated from the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries, bear witness to the commercial and administrative importance of the city. Although the available sources do not specify the exact time of construction of this building, its early ranking (1920) suggests an architectural or historical value recognized from the early twentieth century.

These buildings were generally used as bourgeois housing, private hotels or places of craft activity, reflecting the economic vitality of the region.
