Origin and history
The building located Place des Héros in Arras is a historical monument whose protection is specifically on the facade. Ranked by ministerial decree on February 10, 1921, it illustrates the attention paid to the architectural heritage after the First World War, during which time Arras, a city heavily affected by conflict, saw many buildings damaged or destroyed. The precise location, assessed as "passable" (note 5/10), places the building at the heart of the city, in an area marked by urban and military history.
Arras, capital of Pas-de-Calais, experienced an important reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century, integrating heritage elements such as this building. Monuments of this type, often preserved for their aesthetic or symbolic value, reflect the construction techniques and architectural styles of their time. Although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not detail its original use, its classified facade suggests a particular historical or artistic interest.
The region of Hauts-de-France, rich in heritage, has many similar buildings, witness to the urban transformations and the protection policies of the early twentieth century.
