Origin and history

The building located in Auvillar, Tarn-et-Garonne, is part of an iconic architectural ensemble of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is integrated into the triangular square surrounding the village hall, a typical example of the urban planning and gasconic architecture of that time. The facades and roofs of this building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 30 April 1946, illustrate the regional style with their arcades and their overall harmony.

The square of Auvillar, with its hall and arcade houses, reflects the social and economic organization of Occitan villages under the Old Regime. These spaces served as places of commerce, especially for local grain and product markets, while at the same time embodying the heart of community life. The civil architecture of this period, like this building, reflects the relative prosperity of rural towns and their role in regional exchanges.

The protected elements of the building, located on Rue de la Triperie and Place de la Halle-aux-Grains, underline its heritage importance. Their inscription in 1946 was designed to preserve a distinctive architectural heritage, where practical functions (commerce, housing) and traditional aesthetics are combined. The precise location, although noted as "passable" (level 5/10), allows to identify this monument as a milestone in the urban history of Auvillar.
