Origin and history

The building at 13 rue de la Poulairerie in Lyon, in the Rhône department (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), dates from the 4th quarter of the 15th century. This civil building, partially classified as a Historical Monument since 1964, illustrates the Lyon urban architecture of the late Middle Ages. Its protected elements — the gate on the street, the vaulted gallery on the ground floor, the staircase with screws and the facades on the courtyard — bear witness to the constructive techniques characteristic of this period, mixing functionality and sober ornaments.

The official protection of the building, which took place by order of 23 September 1964, specifically concerns structural and decorative parts considered emblematic. The classification mentions the cadastral plots H 648 and 648bis, confirming its anchoring in the historical fabric of Old Lyon. Today owned by the municipality, the building is associated with the Museum of Printing and Graphic Communication, highlighting its potential link to the artisanal or intellectual activities of the time.

The location of the building, between the addresses 13 rue de la Poulairerie (1st arrondissement) and 14 rue de la Poulairerie (2nd arrondissement), reflects successive urban adjustments. The map accuracy, estimated at 5/10 (passable), suggests minor uncertainties about its exact location, without questioning its authenticity. Available sources (Monumentum, Mérimée base) confirm its status as a preserved medieval Lyon heritage.
