Origin and history
The castle of Genthial, located in the town of Liorac-sur-Louyre (Dordogne), is a historic monument registered since 1948. It is distinguished by its 17th century architecture, marked by a body of regular houses with high roof tiles, framed by two square turrets in corbellation surmounted by lanterns. A well covered in stone, dating from the same period, completes the whole, accessible by a closed courtyard with two gates.
The structure of the castle reflects the aesthetic and functional canons of noble houses of the period in Périgord. Its symmetrical plan, with a central part in ressalt on the facades, illustrates the influence of classical models diffused in the seventeenth century. Registration as Historic Monuments in 1948 underscores its heritage value, although available sources do not specify its original use or its potential owners.
The protected elements include the entire castle, with its major architectural features: turrets, wells, and gates. The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), places the monument in a rural setting typical of the Périgord, region marked at that time by an agrarian economy and networks of local nobility. No information is available on its openness to the public or its contemporary uses.
