Origin and history

The Perdrière barn, located in Mesland in the Loir-et-Cher, is a historic monument dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is distinguished by its Philibert-Delorme style structure, a remarkable architectural technique that makes it unique in the department. This barn initially depended on the castle of Monteaux and remains today exploited for agricultural purposes, testifying to its continuous utility function throughout the centuries.

Local tradition suggests that this construction model, rare in the region, could be inspired by the techniques used in Flemish countries. The structure, protected by a registration order in 1989, is at the heart of its heritage value. Although the precise location is approximate (level 6 on a scale of 10), its official address is recorded as 2 La Perdrière, 41150 Mesland. The barn, owned by a private company, illustrates the adaptation of North European architectural techniques in the Loire Valley.

The inscription in the Historical Monuments in 1989 specifically concerns the barn covered by its Philibert-Delorme frame, excluding a wing later added to the South-East. This ranking underlines its importance as a preserved example of sophisticated rural architecture, combining agricultural functionality and technical innovation. No information is available on its accessibility to the public, its tourist vocation or related services (visits, rentals).
