Origin and history
The school group at 10 rue Küss, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, was built between 1932 and 1934. This architectural project, led by Roger-Henri Expert, is distinguished by its innovative constructive system, combining concrete piles and bearing alloys. It initially housed a boys' school, a girls' school and a kindergarten, reflecting the educational organization of the time.
The interior spaces of the school group are marked by a neat decor, including ironwork, fence elements, polychrome ceramic stoneware floors and fresco paintings adorning the meadows. These artistic and technical features show particular attention to the aesthetics and functionality of educational spaces. The building was inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 15 July 1997, thereby recognizing its heritage value.
The location of the school group, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, is part of an urban context that was undergoing a transformation during the 20th century. This neighbourhood, which was developing at the time, saw the emergence of many public facilities designed to meet the needs of a growing population. The school group on 10 Küss Street illustrates this dynamic, as an essential infrastructure for education and social life in the neighbourhood.
