Origin and history

The Puits du 18s is a historical monument located in Oppede, in the department of Vaucluse (84), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Dating from the 18th century, it is listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 12 January 1931. This well, integrated into a garden, now belongs to the commune of Oppede.

The location of the well, although documented (2295 Route d'Oppède-le-Vieux), is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10). This type of structure, typical of provencal villages, reflects the importance of collective water points in the social and agricultural organization of the rural communities of the time. The wells served not only as a water supply but also as a meeting and exchange place.

Available sources, including Monumentum and Merimée data, confirm its status as communal property. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visit, rental, etc.), or on any historical characters related to its construction or use.
