Origin and history
The residence Val d Built before 1766, it worked as a sugar factory during the 18th and 19th centuries. Although the current vestiges do not allow the entire reconstruction of its organization, they form an apparently coherent architectural whole, marked by the sugar activity of the time.
The site is distinguished by the presence of a two-level beast mill, a unique example in Martinique. This mill has retained its rollers (cylinder grinding), testifying to colonial sugar production techniques. The dwelling, partially protected since 1991, illustrates Martinique's agricultural industrial heritage, linked to the plantation economy and the history of slavery in the French Antilles.
Ranked as a Historic Monument by order of 31 December 1991, the Val d'Or dwelling includes specific cadastral parcels (C 149, 152, 137; E 602, 603). Today private property, its access and vocation (visit, rental, accommodation) are not specified in the available sources. The exact location remains approximate, with an address indicated as 5151 F Val d'Or, 97227 Sainte-Anne, but a cartographic accuracy deemed mediocre (level 5/10).
