Auguste Bontemps - Architect Designer of Pellegrue Hall.

Origin and history

The Hall of Pellegrue, classified as Historic Monument, was built between 1909 and 1913 according to plans of the Bordeaux architect Auguste Bontemps. This building is distinguished by a two-part structure: exterior galleries supported by cast iron pillars, and a central window covered with a two-paned roof. The monumental stone entrances, topped by triangular frontons, mark the centre on each side.

The open galleries are based on six cast iron pillars, four at angles and two at the middle of the sides. The whole, registered in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 11 June 2015, belongs to the commune of Pellegrue. The hall embodies the utilitarian and aesthetic architecture of the time, mixing industrial materials like cast iron and traditional stone elements.

Located in Place du Huit Mai 1945, this hall reflects the urbanization and commercial needs of small French cities at the beginning of the 20th century. Its architect, Auguste Bontemps, known for his achievements in Bordeaux, applied a style both functional and adorned, typical of the public constructions of this period in Aquitaine.
