Halle (Case A 474): entry by order of 19 December 1973

Origin and history

The Halle de Villenouveau has been a historic monument since 19 December 1973. This square plan building, dated the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, is distinguished by its structure in posts and masonry arcades, supporting an apparent structure covered with canal tiles. A central metal shelf strengthens the building's stability. Three of its sides are walled, while the north side opens onto four low arched arcades, giving the whole a functional and aesthetic look.

The hall, located at the 6 Route Départementale 813 in Villenouveau (Haute-Garonne), belongs to the commune. Its architecture reflects the practical needs of modern-day local markets and gatherings. The halls then played a central role in the economic and social life of the villages, serving as a place of exchange for agricultural and artisanal products. Their open design allowed easy movement of people and goods, while providing shelter against weather.

Available data indicate an approximate location, estimated at 5/10 in terms of accuracy. No information is provided on any visits, services or contemporary uses of the building. The main source of this information is the Merimée database, supplemented by internal data and Monumentum. The hall, although protected, does not have any additional details on any restorations or modifications subsequent to its initial construction.
