The House of Atlanteans, located in Nîmes, is an emblematic building of 17th century Nîmes civil architecture. Built between 1676 and 1678 on the initiative of the silk merchant Jean Martin, it embodies the classic style of the Louis XIV era. Architects Pierre Cournon and Jacques Cubizol designed this building, whose façade is distinguished by a door framed by two atlantes, surmounted by a moulure archtrave and a larmier cornice. This architectural detail, combined with a rinceaux frieze, makes it a unique monument in the region.

In the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century, two additional spans were added to the east, faithfully reproducing the original style. The entrance door, with its unique vantail decorated with small panels and a central medallion, bears witness to the craftsmanship of the time. Classified as a Historic Monument in 2000, the Maison des Atlantes illustrates the importance of the silk trade in Nîmes and the cultural influence of the city under the Ancien Régime.

Although the accuracy of its location is considered fair, its listing in the Historical Monuments inventory underscores its architectural and historical value. Their presence, combined with decorative elements such as the rinceaux frieze, reflects a desire to affirm a high social status, typical of merchants enriched by trade, like Jean Martin.
