the two facades including the gate with its vantals on Rue des Boucheries and a cross-window on the first floor on Rue des Chanoines (Box AN 231): classification by decree of 20 July 1923

Origin and history

The 14th century house in Billom, Puy-de-Dôme, is a historical monument built in the 14th century. It is distinguished by its 15th century portal, a basket handle style, whose frame is decorated with a tore between two cellars based on prismatic bases. This gate, well preserved in its upper part, gives access to a partially demolished structure, testifying to the architectural transformations undergone over the centuries.

The facade of the house presents a small opening to the left of the gate, framed with molded stone and with bars, typical of medieval buildings. The portal vantals, although degraded in their lower part, remain generally intact. The protection of this monument, classified by decree of 20 July 1923, covers the two facades, the gate with its vantals, as well as a cross window located on the first floor, highlighting its heritage importance.

The exact address of this monument, 11 rue des Boucheries and rue des Chanoines in Billom, reflects its integration into the medieval urban fabric. The location, noted as 'passable' (5/10) in the sources, suggests an approximation in the available geographic data. This building illustrates the civil architecture of the medieval Auvergne, marked by defensive and aesthetic elements specific to this period.
