Origin and history
The Chilhaud hotel is a private hotel located in the heart of Périgueux, in the Dordogne department (Nouvelle-Aquitaine). Built in the 16th century, it is distinguished by its Renaissance architecture, including its entrance door adorned with caissoned pilasters, acanthe-leaf capitals and a frieze decorated with symmetrical rinsels surrounding a shield. This sculptural detail bears witness to the local artistic influence during the reigns of Francis I and Henry II, typical of the Périgord of this time.
The facade on the courtyard, including an octagonal tower, as well as the roofs, the spiral staircase and the Renaissance gate, were inscribed in the historical monuments by order of 28 November 1938. The building, located at 11 rue de la Wisdom in the city's protected area, remains a private property. Its location on the right bank of the Isle and its integration with the urban heritage underline its historical and architectural importance.
The Chilhaud hotel embodies the prestige of the aristocratic houses of the 16th century, a period marked by artistic growth and economic prosperity linked to trade and the royal administration.
