Origin and history

Fourg Castle, located in the Doubs department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a seigneurial residence dating back to the end of the 16th century, during the conquest of Franche-Comté by Louis XIV. The Faton family, including François Faton, built a first construction there. However, it was around 1770-1780 that the Faton des Bryans family gave it its present form, with a U-house body and a gate adorned closing the inner courtyard. Eighteenth century decor elements still remain inside.

In the 20th century, the castle became the headquarters of the Marcelle and Robert de Lacour Foundation, created by the harpsichordist Marcelle de Lacour (1896-1997), who lived there. The estate includes a park extending to the village, as well as an old farm and communes built around 1900. The castle has been listed as a historical monument since 9 September 1998, protecting its home, facades, roofs, courtyard, garden and gates.

Architecturally, the castle is distinguished by its U-shaped plan, its two storeys of underlay, and its adorned gate. The park, bordered by the main street to the west, incorporates green spaces and ancillary buildings, reflecting the successive transformations of the estate. Today, there remains a testimony of the seigneurial and cultural history of the region, marked by its heritage inscription and its link with classical music thanks to Marcelle de Lacour.
