Origin and history

The house located in Saint-Malo, built in the 1st quarter of the 18th century, is part of the second increment of the city between 1716 and 1725. It embodies the typical architecture of this period, marked by the influence of engineer Garangeau, who designed the designs of many houses of that time. Originally, this house was a privateer's house, reflecting the intense maritime and commercial activity of Saint-Malo, then strategic port for race and colonial trade.

In August 1944, the building suffered a total fire, probably linked to the bombings of the Second World War that hit the city hard. Despite this destruction, its facades were protected by an order of inscription under the Historic Monuments on 14 February 1946, bearing witness to its heritage importance. Today, it remains an emblematic vestige of Saint Malo's urban and maritime history, although its current state and use are not specified in the available sources.

The location of the house, initially recorded at 20 rue de Toulouse (formerly associated with other addresses such as the rue de Dinan), illustrates the evolution of the malouin urban fabric. GPS coordinates and cadastral data (section AB, parcel 193) confirm its anchoring in the historical centre, an area marked by architecture of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Its ranking also reflects the desire to preserve a heritage linked to the golden age of the corsairs, a period when Saint-Malo radiated in Europe.
