Origin and history
The house at 9-11 rue des Orfèvres in Vienna is an example of Renaissance civil architecture, dating from the second half of the 16th century. Its style recalls that of the houses of Villefranche-sur-Saône, with characteristic elements of this period such as the open facades and the door windows. Ranked Historic Monument by order of 10 February 1992, it is now owned by a private company.
The location of this monument in the historic centre of Vienna reflects the importance of this city as a commercial and cultural crossroads during the Renaissance. The rue des Orfèvres, where it is located, evokes by its name the artisanal and commercial activities that animated the neighborhood at that time. Although the sources do not specify its original use, this type of house was often inhabited by wealthy bourgeois or artisans.
The available data indicate a "passable" location accuracy (note 5/10), and an address confirmed by the Merimée database and GPS coordinates. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rental, or guest rooms), or on any restoration work.
