Origin and history

The house in Reims, in the Great East, was a historic monument whose façade was classified by ministerial decree on 20 November 1920. This building, which is now extinct, was located at 142 Barbâtre Street, although approximate GPS coordinates also placed it near 24 d'Oseille Street. Its state of conservation and exact location remained uncertain, as evidenced by the accuracy considered "fair" (note 5/10) in heritage databases.

Historical houses like this often reflected, in Reims and in the Champagne-Ardenne region (now Grand Est), the civil architecture of the past, marked by local influences and typical materials. In a constantly changing urban environment, especially after the destruction of the two world wars, these buildings played a role of collective memory. Their preservation, even partial as for the facade of this house, underlined the importance attached to built heritage, despite the challenges of urbanization and conflict.
