Origin and history

The château d'Amblans, located in Amblans-et-Velotte in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is an 18th-century building built around 1720-1725. This rectangular house, preceded by a courtyard and surrounded by commons and a park, has regular facades with a central forebody crowned with a triangular pediment. The entrance door, framed by a moulded chambranle, is part of an ionic span, a style found in several contemporary buildings in the Luxeuil region. Inside, modest decorations and elements of second work dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries remain.

The castle was commissioned by Jean-Charles-Alexis Breton d'Amblans, a member of a family of dresses established in Luxeuil for several generations. He served as governor, mayor and bailiff of the city. The building was sold in 1769 to Claude-Joseph Lyautey dit de Genevreuille, then after the Revolution to the Damedor de Mollans. In 1855, the construction of the railway reduced part of the park that initially surrounded the castle.

Ranked a Historic Monument, the Castle of Amblans has been fully protected, including its communes and park, since a decree of 7 December 2015. Its architecture and history reflect the influence of local families and the transformations of the landscape over the centuries.
