Origin and history

The House called Le Château, located in Souvigny in the Allier department, is a building whose origins date back to the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. This monument is a remnant of a castle belonging to the Dukes of Bourbon, the influential family of the region. Its architecture and location, near St Mark's Church, testify to its local historic importance.

The castle was listed as historic monuments on 12 January 1931, recognizing its heritage value. Protected elements include the facade and roof. Although partially preserved, it offers an overview of the architectural and political history of Bourbonnais, marked by the presence of the Dukes of Bourbon.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, also mention bibliographical references, including an inventory of the castle's furniture dating from 1471, published by G. Fanjoux in 1849. These documents shed light on the life and organization of this place throughout the centuries, although little precise details of its use or its occupants are directly accessible in current source texts.
