Origin and history

The Maison du Patrimoine de Hières-sur-Amby was created in 1985 to enhance the archaeological discoveries of the Larina site, located in the commune. The museum exhibits objects from the excavations, including prehistoric burials of the Balme caves and remains of Larina's habitat. The collections, complemented by models and reconstructions, offer a panorama of the settlement and lifestyles in the Isle of Cremieu region, from prehistory to the 20th century.

Set in a former 18th-century presbytery, the Heritage House is housed in a historic building with typical architecture in the region. The museum is labeled "Museum of France" and is located in the Church Square, in the heart of the village. Its multidisciplinary approach covers a variety of fields, from archaeology to ethnology, to natural sciences, reflecting the richness of local heritage.

The museum's major assets lie in its archaeological collections, which allow us to evoke the evolution of human societies in the Isle of Cremieu. The reconstitutions and models exhibited facilitate understanding of past lifestyles, while highlighting the historical importance of the Larina site. This cultural place plays a key role in preserving and transmitting the collective memory of the region.
