Facades and roofs of the main building, its eastern annex and the kiosk; Gallieni Park (Case AZ 1013): registration by order of 17 August 1979
Origin and history
The military hospital and Gallieni Park, located in the Terre-Sainville district of Fort-de-France, date from the 18th century. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, is distinguished by its architecture and its integration into a landscaped park. The façades and roofs of the main building, its eastern annex and the kiosk, are protected by a registration order in 1979, reflecting their heritage value.
The site is located at the official address of José Marti Square, although it is also located on Paul Nardal Avenue with approximate GPS coordinates. Owned by the commune of Fort-de-France, it embodies a military and urban heritage of Martinique. The accuracy of its location is considered fair, according to the criteria of the Merimée base, highlighting the challenges of its exact mapping.
The ensemble, which includes Gallieni Park, illustrates the importance of health infrastructure and public spaces in French settlements in the 18th century. Although available sources (Monumentum, internal data) do not detail its current use, its status as a Historical Monument and partial protection testify to its past role and preservation for future generations.
