Façades sur rue with their oriels and roofs : inscription by decree of 4 August 1970
Origin and history
The Fenetrange Hospital, located in the Moselle department in the Grand East region, dates from the first quarter of the 16th century. This building, whose facades on the street with their gills and roofs are inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1970, bears witness to the civil and hospital architecture of this period. It is now owned by the municipality of Fénétrange, and its official address, 78 rue de l'Hôpital, is referenced in the Mérimée base.
At the time of its construction, in the early 16th century, hospitals played a central role in towns and villages, providing care and shelter to the poorest. In a region like Lorraine, marked by intense cultural and economic exchanges, these establishments often reflected local prosperity and the commitment of communities or lords to charitable works.
The protected elements of the Fenetrange Hospital, including its oriels (situated windows typical of medieval and reborn architecture), underline its heritage importance. Although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), its inscription as a Historical Monument in 1970 attests to its architectural and historical value. No information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary uses.
