Origin and history
The Abriot Hotel in Grussia was built at the end of the 18th century on the site of the former convent of the Tiercelines in Lons-le-Saunier. This monument, of Louis XVI style, incorporates elements of the medieval basement of the convent, while displaying a typical architecture of its time. Its facades, its interior staircase and two lounges decorated with original panelling and stucco testify to this preserved heritage.
In the 19th century, the hotel was enriched with additional decorations, reflecting the evolution of artistic tastes. In 1928 it became the seat of the City's Chamber of Commerce, marking its adaptation to modern uses. The cellars, inherited from the convent, as well as the lounges and stairs, were protected by a decree of inscription in 1996, highlighting their historical value.
Today, the Abriot Hotel in Grussia, a private property, retains a double identity: that of a place of economic power (Chamber of Commerce) and that of an architectural testimony of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Its state of conservation and successive reuse illustrate the ability of the heritage to adapt to the changing needs of society.
