Origin and history
Hotel Armand is an emblematic building located in Avignon, in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built during the second half of the 18th century, it embodies the refined civil architecture of this period, marked by the elegance of facades and decorated interiors. Its exact address, 6 impasse of the Oratory, is listed in the Merimée base, confirming its anchoring in the local heritage.
In 1988, the hotel generated political interest when Senator Michel Miroudot asked the government about its ranking and preservation. This intervention culminated in its inscription as historical monuments on 17 March 1989. The protected elements include facades, roofs, the vestibule, a wrought iron staircase, two living rooms on the first floor with their decor, as well as the garden floor. These details highlight the heritage value of the building.
The Armand Hotel illustrates the role of private hotels in the 18th century Provencal society, where these urban residences reflected the social status of their owners. Although the sources do not specify its initial use, its architecture and current protection testify to its historical and cultural importance for Avignon and its region.
