Origin and history
The Berbisey Hotel, located at 25 Berbisey Street in Dijon, is an emblematic monument to the city's architectural heritage. Built in the 17th century, it was partially redesigned in the second half of the 18th century, notably by architect Nicolas Lenoir, dit Le Romain, who designed the Petit Hôtel Berbisey in a Louis XVI style. The garden, aligned with the perspective of the Sainte-Anne church, completes this remarkable ensemble.
The hotel is part of the two-stage historic monuments (1970 for the façades and roofs of the Grand Hotel, 1997 for those of the Petit Hotel, its staircase and its garden), illustrating the evolution of architectural styles between classicism and neoclassicism. Since 1964, it has hosted the Faton editions, a publishing house specializing in art history and archaeology, making it an active historical and cultural place.
The protected elements include the facades, roofs, the honorary staircase of the Petit Hotel, as well as the garden, reflecting the heritage importance of the site. The property is shared between a private owner and the municipality of Dijon, stressing its anchor in local life.
