Origin and history

Hotel Brou de Lauriere is a private mansion in Périgueux, Dordogne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built in the early 20th century, it illustrates the aristocratic architecture of the period, with marked neo-classical influences. Its location, at the bottom of the current avenue Georges-Pompidou (former road of Paris), makes it a witness of the perigordin urbanism of the early 1900s. The whole, including the park and outbuildings, has been protected as historical monuments since 2006 for its architectural quality and original furniture intact.

The hotel was ordered in 1911 by the doctor Marie Antoine Paulin de Brou de Laurie, a member of a local aristocratic family. The plans were entrusted to the Bordeaux architect Albert Touzin (1852-1917), while the construction was carried out by the entrepreneur Paul Peloux, originally from Asturias but installed in Périgueux. The building is distinguished by its interior decorations and integrated furniture, reflecting the lifestyle of a provincial elite at the turn of the century. After the death of Patrick de Brou de Laurie in 2010, the property was transferred to the eponymous foundation, ensuring its conservation.

The site is part of the landscape of the White Perigord, on the outskirts of the preserved area of Périgueux. Its inscription in historical monuments in 2006 underscores its heritage interest, both for its architecture and for its role as a witness to a bourgeois residence of the early twentieth century. The protected elements include not only the hotel itself, but also its park and outbuildings, forming a coherent and representative ensemble of this period which is the cornerstone between tradition and modernity.
