Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1947 underscores its heritage value, especially for its protected elements: the entrance gate, the fence wall, the facades, and the roofs of the buildings surrounding the courtyard of honour.

The location of the Hotel d'Aoust, at 50 rue de la Comédie in Douai, reflects the historic importance of this city, once the judicial capital of Flanders.
