Origin and history

The Plessis d'Argentré hotel, located at 62 rue du Lycée in Laval (Mayenne), is a private hotel built in 1771 for Olivier-Ambroise Dubois, master of the forges of Chailland and Port-Brillet. This brother of Michel Dubois de Beauregard, also master of the forges, built a rigorous building, marked by a triangular pediment on the central span, superimposed pilasters and a wrought iron balcony. The interiors preserve woodwork, painted hazes and a wrought iron ramp staircase, testimony of its original fascist.

The hotel passed by alliance to the Plessis d'Argentré family, itself linked to the forge masters, who occupied it until 1950. After a rental period, it was acquired in 2006 by Brigitte and Jacques Nouveau. The house, flanked by two wings of commons (part of which dates from the early 19th century), was listed as historical monuments in 2008. Its architecture combines coated bellows, limestone and granite dangle chains, and arched skylights.

The monumental protection covers the whole house, the cobbled courtyard, the fence wall with its gates, as well as the facades and roofs of the wings of communes. The interior decor, largely preserved, includes fireplaces, parquet floors and period woodwork. The building illustrates the industrial and residential heritage linking the 18th century Lavallois bourgeoisie to regional metallurgical activity.
