Origin and history

Hotel d'Orvilliers is a historic monument located in Moulins, in the Allier department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 15th century, it is a typical example of the civil architecture of the Louis II period. The building is distinguished by its cut stone façade, its cornice decorated with foliage and its three animal-shaped gargoyles. The inner courtyard houses a stair tower, the remains of an ancient well, and a niche with a statue of gunman.

The façade on courtyard also features a serrated loggia passage upstairs, adding to its architectural character. The hotel was partially listed as historical monuments on 29 March 1929, specifically protecting the cornice with its gargoyles, the stair turret and the fronts on courtyard. These elements reflect the heritage importance of the building.

The exact address of the hotel is 57 rue d'Allier in Moulins, although some sources mention an approximate location at 1 Rue de la Chèvre. This monument illustrates the Bourbon heritage and late medieval civil architecture, typical of cities like Moulins, which played a major administrative and economic role in the region at that time.
