Origin and history

The Baudon de Mauny hotel is a mansion built in 1777 in Montpellier, in the Hérault department, for Guillaume Charles Baudon de Mauny. The latter, the administrator of the Crown estates and director of the king's estates in the city, built this emblematic building from the 4th quarter of the 18th century. The architecture has a classic regularity, with a quadrilateral with central courtyard, a staircase in the body opposite the entrance, and a gallery on the first floor. The facades, marked by arches in basket handle and decorative sculptures, reflect the elegant style of the era.

The hotel was listed as historic monuments on 10 January 1964 for its street façade and its corresponding roof slope. Since 2008, the place has been converted into a boutique hotel, allowing visitors to stay there. The building, located at 1 rue de la Carbonnerie, retains integrated Gothic elements during its reconstruction in 1777, testifying to its architectural evolution.

Architectural details include six arches on the ground floor, four of which have a curved frame and carved keys, while the two bows of the forebody, with slits and crossettes, have keys decorated with heads. The richly decorated windows of the floors highlight the distinction of the forebody. This monument, now accessible, combines historical heritage and contemporary use, perpetuating its heritage in the Montpellieran landscape.
