Origin and history

The Beauharnais hotel, also known as the Regnault Hotel, is a former mansion located at 81 rue de France in Fontainebleau, Seine-et-Marne. Built during the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, this building illustrates the civil architecture of this period. Its facades and roofs, overlooking the street and the courtyard, were partially listed as historical monuments by order of 28 April 1969, highlighting their heritage value.

Fontainebleau, a town to the south-west of the Seine-et-Marne, was at that time a residence popular with the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie, because of its proximity to the royal court and the Château de Fontainebleau. Private hotels, such as Beauharnais, served as urban residences for wealthy families, reflecting their social status and economic power. These buildings were often designed to combine comfort, elegance and representation.

The Beauharnais hotel is distinguished by its central location in Fontainebleau, close to other notable buildings such as the Hotel d'Orléans and the British hotel, located on the same street. These buildings, often built in the same period, bear witness to the urbanization and beautification of the city in the 18th century. Their presence contributes to the architectural richness of Fontainebleau, reinforced by the protection that some people enjoy today as historical monuments.
