Origin and history
The Hotel de Bezons, located in Pézenas in the Hérault, is a 17th century historical monument, representative of the civil architecture of this period. Its spatial organization is centred on a monumental staircase, whose parallel flights rest on a crawling cradle vault. The steps serve the apartments laterally, highlighting a rational and symmetrical design typical of the era.
The facade is distinguished by a stone door decorated with doric-shaped canned columns, surmounted by a entablement and a cut pediment. These decorative elements, characteristic of the seventeenth century, bear witness to a marked classical influence. The door, classified as Historic Monument by order of 6 October 1933, is the only protected element of the building.
The historic address of the hotel, in the 22 course Jean-Jaurès (formerly Molière course), places the building in the heart of Pézenas, a city marked by a rich architectural heritage. Although the sources do not mention specific characters or events related to its construction, its style and ornamental details reflect the aesthetic cannons of the Languedoc private hotels of the Ancien Régime.
