Origin and history

Hôtel de Bretagne-Blancey is a private hotel located in the heart of Dijon, in its preserved area, at 6-8 rue Berbisey. Built in the 3rd quarter of the 17th century, it illustrates bourgeois civil architecture of this time. The building has been listed as historic monuments since 1978, with protection covering its facades, roofs, gate, wall on street, and two interior staircases with wrought iron ramps. These elements reflect the prestige of its former owners and the care given to its design.

Before the French Revolution, the hotel was occupied by Claude-Charles Bernard de Blancey, son of André Bernard de Chaintré and Marguerite de Bretagne. In 1785 he sold the residence to Meney-Ligier, treasurer of France, marking the beginning of a series of transmissions between influential families. The property then passed to his son Claude Meney (1773-1845), then to his grandson Simon-Pierre-Émile Rigollier de Parcey (1795-1861), mayor of Dôle and deputy of Jura. In 1846 he sold it to André-Napoléon Buirette (1803-1892), who in turn gave it to Auguste Poupon. In 1882 Poupon offered the museum six doortops from the hotel, showing its rich interior decor.

At the end of the 19th century, the hotel housed Mrs. Bourgeon's House of Education, revealing an educational or residential vocation after her aristocratic age. Its history reflects the social changes of Dijon, between nobility of Ancien Régime, rising bourgeoisie and modern adaptations. Today, there remains a remarkable example of the Dijon heritage, combining family history and architectural value.

The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) underline its heritage importance, with a precise location at 6-8 rue Berbisey, in the department of Côte-d'Or (21). Its state of conservation and protection make it a key place to understand the urban and social evolution of Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
