Origin and history

The Hotel de la Caisse d'saving d'Orléans was built between 1910 and 1912 on the location of the former hotel in Geffrier, in central Orleans. The building, designed between courtyard and garden, is distinguished by a facade adorned with garlands, lion heads, canned columns and mascarons, as well as inscriptions evoking the values of Peace and Work. Its ostentatious architecture is inspired by private hotels while adopting a monumentality typical of the banking buildings of the late 19th and early 20th century.

The glass roof covering the reception room and the roof supporters are the only original interior elements still in place today. The transformations of the 1970s erased much of the original decor. The façade, on the other hand, remains a testimony of architectural eclecticism chosen by the Board of Directors of the time, mixing tradition and modernity for a financial institution.

The hotel was listed as a historic monument in 2000, protecting its facades, roofs, the entrance gate, the window and its supports, as well as the remaining interior decorations. The architects Mothiron (design) and G. Lemaire (sculptures) marked this project, now owned by a professional body. Its official address, 3 rue d'Escures, makes it a heritage landmark in the Orléan landscape.
