Façades and roofs on courtyard and streets; entrance portal (cad. H 630): entry by order of 2 March 1971

Origin and history

The Hôtel de Champagney is a historic monument located in Dole, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Built in the 4th quarter of the 16th century, it is distinguished by its facades and roofs on courtyard and on streets, as well as by its entrance gate, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 2 March 1971. Its official address, 18-20 rue Pasteur and 21 rue Granvelle, places the building in the heart of the city, in an area marked by Renaissance architecture.

The protection of the Hôtel de Champagney is specifically concerned with its exterior architectural elements, reflecting the heritage importance of this type of private hotels in the Jura. Although the sources do not specify its original use, this type of building was often linked to the aristocracy or the local bourgeoisie, playing a role in Dole's social and economic life at the end of the Renaissance. The location, noted as very satisfactory (note 8/10), allows a clear identification of the site.

No information is available on historic owners, with significant events taking place, or a possible public opening. The data are limited to its legal protection and precise location, without details of its current state or contemporary functions (visits, accommodation, etc.).
