Origin and history
The Hotel de Clérieu, located in Romans-sur-Isère in the Drôme, is a historical monument whose origins probably date back to the 10th or 11th century. It consists of several elements built at different times: the bastide of the Clérieu and the tower of the Poitiers (medieval period), the house of the Coppe (15th century), as well as the house of the Mulet and the Montélégier (17th-15th centuries). These successive additions reflect the architectural and social evolution of the site over nearly eight centuries.
The bastide and tower, dated between the 12th and 13th centuries, constitute the oldest nucleus of the whole. The house of the Coppe, erected in the 15th century, illustrates the expansion of the site during the late Gothic period. Finally, the houses of the Mulet and Montélégier, built between the 17th and 18th centuries, testify to the transformations linked to the modern era, integrating stylistic elements specific to these centuries.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 17 July 1990, the hotel of Clérieu includes protected parts under the cadastral reference BK 895. Its official address, 2 Place aux Herbes, places the building in the heart of the historic centre of Romans-sur-Isère, in an environment marked by a GPS location deemed "passable" (note 5/10). No specific information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation).
