Origin and history
Hotel de Clézieux is a private hotel located in Moncontour, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, Brittany. Built in the 17th century, it is distinguished by its facade and roof inscribed with historical monuments since 1969. Originally, this residence belonged to Latimier du Clézieux, a rich merchant in the region.
In March 1795 General Lazare Hoche stayed there during his visit to Moncontour. The house, decorated with pilasters and wrought iron balconies, has lost some architectural elements such as its Mansart roof and triangular pediment with a sundial. Despite these changes, the interior retains period decorations, such as woodwork, paintings and a historic staircase.
The protection of the Hotel de Clézieux relates specifically to its facade overlooking the square and the corresponding roof, classified since 18 December 1969. Today, the building remains a testimony of Breton civil architecture of the seventeenth century and its history linked to the French Revolution.
