Henri II de Bourbon-Condé - Prince of Condé Hotel manager, never resident.

Origin and history

The hotel of Condé, located at 303 Grande-Rue in Montluel in the department of Ain, is a mansion built in the seventeenth century. It was built at the initiative of Prince Henry II of Bourbon-Condé, who acquired the seigneury of Montluel in 1631. Despite its construction, the prince never stayed in this building, whose pediment bears the letter "B" in reference to the Bourbon-Condé family.

The facade and roof of the hotel, as well as the two adjoining houses with the same address, have been protected as historical monuments since 29 September 1981. These architectural elements, characteristic of the 17th century style, testify to the historic importance of the site, linked to one of the largest princely families in France.

The hotel of Condé illustrates the prestige of the Bourbon-Condé, although its real use by the family remains anecdotal. Its inscription among historical monuments underlines its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its connection to the political and aristocratic history of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
