Origin and history

The Hotel de Feydeau is an emblematic monument to the city of Moulins, in the Allier department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built during the second half of the 15th century, it is distinguished by its 15th century stair turret, accessible by a moulure door and illuminated by three windows decorated with flowered accolades. A shield bears the coat of arms of the Feydeau family, highlighting its connection to this place.

Antoine Feydeau, seigneur of Rochefort, was a key figure associated with this hotel. Prior to 1501 he was an adviser and physician to Duke Pierre II of Bourbon and Anne of France. The hotel was probably built for him, reflecting his social status and influence at the court of the Dukes of Bourbon. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the late Middle Ages and the transition to the Renaissance.

The Hotel de Feydeau was partially listed as historical monuments by order of 29 March 1929. Protected features include the stair turret and courtyard façades, reflecting the heritage importance of this building. Its address, 61 rue d'Allier (formerly 53), places this monument in the heart of Moulins, a city marked by its Bourbon history.

The location of the hotel, although documented, varies according to the source. GPS coordinates suggest an approximate address at 4 Rue de la Flèche, but the official address remains that of rue d'Allier. This detail reflects the challenges sometimes encountered in the precise location of historic monuments, especially in ancient city centres.
