Origin and history

Hotel de Jocas is a private hotel located in the municipality of Pernes-les-Fontaines, in the department of Vaucluse. This monument, built in the seventeenth century, is a typical example of the civil architecture of this period in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Its gate, as well as the fountain in the garden, have been listed in the inventory of historical monuments since 1928.

The property belonged to the Brassier de Jocas family, a local lineage whose name remains associated with this building. The portal, a remarkable architectural element, is the only element protected by the decree of 8 September 1928. The hotel is located at 222 Rue Raspail, an address that reflects its integration into the historical urban fabric of Pernes-les-Fontaines.

In the seventeenth century, private hotels often reflected the social status of their owners, usually noble or bourgeois families. In Pernes-les-Fontaines, as in other Provencal cities, these residences played a central role in local life, serving as places of reception and representation. Their architecture blended classical and regional influences, adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
