Origin and history
The Hotel de la Petite Rose was an emblematic monument of Compiègne, located at the corner of Austerlitz Street and Biscuit Square. Built in the 16th century, it was partially renovated in the 18th century, as evidenced by its preserved interior facades. The building, typical of the civil architecture of these eras, reflected the prestige of the private hotels in the region.
Listed as historical monuments on April 11, 1950 for its 18th century elements (public hall and dining room), the hotel was destroyed between 1960 and 1965 to give way to a savings bank. Its disappearance illustrates the urban transformations of Compiègne in the 20th century, where historical heritage has sometimes given way to modern needs.
The protected remains, like the interior facades, recall its architectural importance. Located in the department of Oise, in the Hauts-de-France region, the hotel was a testament to the stylistic evolutions between Renaissance and the Enlightenment. Its exact address, 32 rue d'Austerlitz, remains referenced in heritage bases like Mérimée.
