Origin and history

The Hotel de Lisleroy, located in Pont-Saint-Esprit in the Gard (Occitanie region), was an iconic 18th century building. Built during this period, it was distinguished by its facade on the square, its entrance hall and its interior staircase, elements protected by a classification under the Historical Monuments in 1968. The building belonged to the municipality and was located in the square of the 12 Town Hall, a central location in the city.

Unfortunately, the Hotel de Lisleroy was demolished in 1974, despite its protected status. The archives mention that only certain architectural parts (facade on the square, vestibule, facades and staircase of the inner courtyard) had been officially protected. Today, only documentary and photographic traces remain, such as those made by Thomas Rokita under Creative Commons license.

The location of the old hotel is now marked by an approximate address: 8 Place de l'Ancien Hôtel de Ville. The available data indicate a geographical accuracy considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), but no physical remains are visible. The building thus illustrates the challenges of preserving heritage in the face of the urban transformations of the twentieth century.
