Origin and history
The Hotel de Loras, also known as Hotel Cabuchet, is a private hotel located at 13 rue Bourgmayer in Bourg-en-Bresse, in the department of Ain. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it embodies the refined civil architecture of this period, typical of the bourgeois residences of the region. Its inscription in historical monuments in 2009 reflects its heritage value, both for its facades and for its interior spaces, such as the stairway of honour.
The history of this place dates back to 1771, when Sieur Chaussat de Sougey, a notable local, commissioned its construction on a plot formerly occupied by convents, including the Cordeliers and Ursulines. In the 19th century, part of the hotel was transformed into a workshop by sculptor Émilien Cabuchet, adding an artistic dimension to his heritage. The communes, courtyard and garden complete this preserved ensemble, reflecting the urban and social evolution of Bourg-en-Bresse.
The site, fully protected since 2009, includes not only the main building but also its outbuildings, as well as the plot on which it stands. This protection covers major architectural elements, such as roofs and facades, but also exterior spaces such as the courtyard and garden. The exact address, 13 rue Bourgmayer, and its Insee code (01053) firmly anchor this monument in the heritage of Ain and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
