Origin and history
The Hotel de Malbos, located in Caraman in Haute-Garonne, is a 17th century historical monument built on a square plane. Its architecture is distinguished by a lookout added to the 19th century, while its interior preserves remarkable decorative elements: gypsums, fireplaces and 18th century trompe-l'oeil, as well as 19th century stuccos in Tourtoulon's bedroom. The doors of the central hall, Louis XIII style, and a room with an Executive Board decor testify to its stylistic evolution throughout the eras.
The painted decorations include landscape paintings made in the mid-19th century by Eugene de Malbos (1811–1858), a regional painter whose name remains associated with the hotel. The facades, roofs and the whole of the first floor were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 27 January 1992, highlighting the heritage value of this place combining architectural and artistic heritage.
The approximate address, 2 Rue Jean Jaurès in Caraman, places the hotel in a modest urban context, with a GPS location deemed "passable" (note 5/10). Although the practical information on visits or services (rent, guest rooms) is not specified, its status as a Historic Monument makes it a site of interest for the study of aristocratic habitat in Occitania in the 17th and 18th centuries.
