Origin and history
The Hotel de Miramon, located in Saint-Céré in the Lot, is a mansion built in the seventeenth century, probably on the location of the old ditches of the city. Its typical architecture combines a body of houses between courtyard and garden, with a stone balcony surmounted by a pyramidal roof with lantern, supported by columns with capitals. These elements, as well as the balustrade, reflect the Louis XIII style, although the current windows appear to be the result of subsequent modifications.
In the 18th century, the hotel belonged to the Miramon family, during which period major renovations were undertaken, including openings. Originally, its construction could be linked to the Bonafous of Almost, although this attribution remains hypothetical. The building has been partially protected since 1929, with an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments for its part "Maison Louis XIII".
Today, the Hotel de Miramon stands at 1 boulevard Carnot, in the centre of Saint-Céré. Its state of conservation and its history make it an architectural testimony of the local elites between the 17th and 18th centuries, although its precise location on ancient ramparts adds an additional historical dimension. However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor (note 5/10), depending on available sources.
