Origin and history
The Hotel de Miromesnil is an emblematic mansion in Rouen, built around 1640 in the architectural style of the mid-17th century. Located at 12 rue de la Seille, it is distinguished by its oval courtyard, a rare feature for the time. This building reflects the influence of the major Parisian hotels in a city that was expanding economically and culturally, marked by its role as the regional capital of Normandy.
Originally, the hotel was built for Mademoiselle de Lessard, a figure of the local nobility. He was then occupied by influential figures, including the intendant of Normandy, and then by Hue de Miromesnil, the first president of the Normandy Parliament. These occupants illustrate the political and judicial importance of Rouen, a city where regional authorities concentrated. The hotel, with its facades and roofs classified in 1978, bears witness to this prestigious past.
The protected elements include facades, roofs, and an interior staircase with a wrought iron ramp, characteristic of the exceptional craftsmanship of the time. Although the sources mention an approximate location (accuracy noted 6/10), the hotel remains a remarkable example of the civil architecture of the Grand Century in Normandy. Its history is documented in specialized works such as Les hôtels particuliers de Rouen (2002), which highlights its heritage value.
