Origin and history
Hotel de Pontèves is a private hotel located in Grasse, in the Alpes-Maritimes, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built in the 4th quarter of the 18th century, it is distinguished by its architecture typical of Provencal private hotels. The building has been listed and classified as a Historic Monument since 1979, especially for its facades, wrought iron staircase and interior decorations.
The hotel is located on 2 boulevard du Jeu-de-Ballon, although some sources mention an approximate address on rue Jean Ossola. The protected elements include the entrance gate, the vestibule, the staircase with its wrought iron ramp, as well as seven rooms spread over the ground floor and the first floor, decorated with painted decorations and gypsum shops. These protections reflect the heritage importance of the building.
It should be noted that the Hotel de Pontèves should not be confused with the Hotel Maurel de Pontevès d'Aix-en-Provence, built in the 17th century for the family of Pontevès. Although both monuments share historical ties with this family, they are distinct both in their location and in their construction period. The information available on the Hôtel de Pontèves de Grasse remains limited, particularly with regard to its detailed history and successive owners.
