Origin and history
The Hotel de Radouan is an emblematic building of the upper town of Bar-le-Duc, built during the first half of the 16th century. It is distinguished by its stone façade of Savonnières, typical of hotels on Rue des Ducs-de-Bar, and its architecture on three floors, with five windows under the roof. Its slightly curved façade and its double edge topped by a coat of arms add to its historic character.
The building is supported by the old city wall, highlighting its integration into the medieval urban fabric. Listed as historical monuments by order of 3 February 1988, it is protected for its façade and roof. Its precise location, at 67 rue des Ducs-de-Bar, makes it a major architectural landmark in the department of Meuse, in the heart of the Grand Est region.
The Rue des Ducs-de-Bar, where the hotel is located, is home to several historic stone buildings in Savonnières, demonstrating the importance of Bar-le-Duc as a ducal city in the Renaissance. The Hotel de Radouan thus illustrates the civil heritage of this period, marked by careful architecture and durable local materials. Its listing in the inventory of historical monuments guarantees the preservation of this heritage for future generations.
