Origin and history
The Hotel de Reiset is an emblematic colmarian heritage building erected in 1718 in the architectural style of the first quarter of the 18th century. Located at 50 rue des Clefs, it is distinguished by a corbelled façade, supported by two stone consoles, and a large wooden entrance arcade on the ground floor. This monument illustrates the evolution of the constructive techniques and aesthetic tastes of the time in Alsace, mixing local tradition and Baroque influences.
The construction of the hotel is attributed to a contractor named Hirsinger, who completely rebuilt the building that year. Although only the facade is considered remarkable, it bears witness to the artisanal know-how of the period, with its windows in modern forms for the eighteenth century. The building was listed as historic monuments on June 18, 1929, recognizing its heritage value.
Property of the town of Colmar, the Hotel de Reiset is part of a larger architectural complex, characteristic of the city centre. Its inscription specifically concerns the facade and roof, which are considered to be the most representative of its historical interest. The location, in the heart of Colmar, makes it a witness to urban planning and the bourgeois life of the city in modern times, reflecting the economic and cultural dynamism of the region under the Old Regime.
